A small look at the link between HYROX and @twcreative. Not the glory bits, the unglamorous prep that makes everything look smooth later.
When I did HYROX last weekend, everyone saw the hour of suffering at the end. No one saw the months of me wobbling through training sessions, trying not to pass out on a sled push. The race isn’t where you get strong, it’s where you spend whatever strength you’ve managed to build without embarrassing yourself.
Design feels the same.
People see the moment the work lands on the table. They don’t see the years of small habits, bad drafts, and me squinting at layouts, wondering why something feels “wonky” when I can’t yet articulate it. You train your eye the same way you train your legs, badly at first, then slightly less badly over time.
Most of the job is slow graft. Doing things properly. Focusing on one thing at a time. Ignoring the urge to sprint when you know you’ll only be puffed out halfway through the project.
So when a piece of work comes together quickly, it’s not some creative superpower. It’s mileage. And the occasional miracle.
Race day is delivery. Everything that matters happens long before the starting gun.
Let’s keep in touch.
